Course description:

This course is a continuation to English 1 (UNI 1202). It aims to give further practice on the 4 language skills required at university level, however listening and speaking skills will be given more attention to enhance these 2 skills through the communicative approach. The course also provides students with considerable range of different advanced activities on vocabulary, grammar and writing in general. 

Course Aims:

The course aims to enable students to:
  • Practice  extra activities on the 4 language skills through  employing daily life  situations in class.
  • Give more focus on the first two skills, listening and speaking as they are the key for mastering the English language.
  • Realize the value of the English language and appreciate its benefit  in all fields of study. 
  • Revise a great amount of previous vocabulary students have already learnt.
  • Help students increase and extend their vocabulary to consolidate the writing activities.
  •  Promote their reading skills through reading interesting subjects and doing motivating tasks.
  • Revise the main grammatical structures in English students previously learnt.
  • Do variety of writing activities to improve their writing skills.
  • Create new words by adding prefixes and suffixes and some other processes of lexical derivation.
  • Do writing exercises on spelling, punctuation and connecting expressions.

Course outcomes:

At the end of the course students are expected to be able to:
  • Use and function the English language skills with more confidence.
  • Prioritize the first 2 skills while learning the language. 
  • Show better reading ability with good pronunciation, stress and intonation. 
  • Display orally more understanding of the given rules of grammar.
  • Do written tasks free from grammatical mistakes.
  • Achieve, in general, noticeable progress in the 4 English language skills.
