Editing and Directing TMUL 3303

Course description:

This course designed to familiarize students with many concepts and aesthetic principles necessary in montage and directing various television programs and short films involving people (actors and characters).In the lab course. students are introduced to the types of editing (Montage); linear editing and non- linear editing. The techniques for the immediate and subsequent editing, where, when and how to move from one shot to another. Methods of editing: cut, dissolve, fade in, fade out, mix, wipe. The sequence of scenes: the sequence scenes and assembly scenes. TV directing and the importance of director and his role in the team work. Identify theoretically and practically all artistic work: decoration, lighting, clothes, make up, the relationship between directing and script;  Learning the various techniques for directing, the relationship of editing with directing, unity aspects, rhythms, and ways of treating scenario or script.

Course Aims:

This course aims to enable the student to:
Be familiar with many concepts and aesthetic principles necessary in producing and directing.
Expand their knowledge of the methods of directing actors.
Be encouraged to think visually and creatively.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
  • Deepen aesthetic understanding and appreciation of actors’ performance in fiction films and television programs.
  • Research, analyze and visualize a character from page to screen.
  • Create and produce a short movie that involves actors.
