Educational Research Methods and Applied Statistics TECH 2207

Course description:

This course introduces the language of a research, contents of research papers, ethical principles and challenges. In addition, it introduces the elements of the research process within quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. Students will use these theoretical underpinnings to begin to critically review literature relevant to their field or interests and determine how research findings are useful in forming their understanding of their work. The lab includes applications on how to analyze the collected data using SPSS program or any equivalent program.

Course Aims:

This course aims to enable the student to:
  • Understand research terminologies.
  • Understand the process of conducting a scientific research. 
  • Demonstrate the skills of conducting a literature review. 
  • Recognize the advantages of various quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Recognize ethical issues that arise in conducting research.
  • Develop a reasonable research proposal.
  • Understand how to analyze the collected research data using SPSS or any equivalent software.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
  • Understand the research types and their processes.
  • Apply the research concepts within their final projects.
  • Write a research pre-proposal or a concept paper for the graduate research.
  • Analyze the collected research data using SPSS or any equivalent software.
