Course description:

This course gives an introductory treatment of linear algebra that is suitable for a first undergraduate course. Its aim is to present the fundamentals of linear algebra in the clearest possible way. The course will cover the following important topics: Systems of Linear Equations and Matrices, determinants, Euclidean Vector Spaces, General Vector Spaces.

Course Aims:

This course aims to enable the student to:
  • Understand Linear Equations.
  • Understand Gaussian Elimination.
  • Understand Matrices and Matrix Operations.
  • Understand Inverses; Algebraic Properties of Matrices.
  • Understand Elementary Matrices and a Method for Finding.
  • Understand Diagonal, Triangular, and Symmetric Matrices.
  • Understand Determinants by Cofactor Expansion.
  • Evaluate Determinants by Row Reduction.
  • Understand Properties of Determinants; Cramer's Rule.
  • Understand Vectors in 2-Space, 3-Space, and n-Space.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
  • Solve linear equation system.
  • Find the nxn matrix inverse, row operations, matrices properties.
  • Find matrices addition, subtraction and products.
  • Understand matrix type, Diagonal, upper and lower matrix and triangular matrix.
  • Understand determinates.
  • Understand how determinant can be use to find matrix inverse. 
  • Apply Properties and operations on determinant.
  • Understand Vectors in 2 and 3 and n-spaces.
