Course description:
This course is offered to address some aspects of proper management of medically compromised patients, infection control in the office, and the proper use and pitfalls of prescription drugs. Pertinent laboratory tests and interpretation of the results are also discussed. Students will examine patients with systemic diseases for evaluation and treatment planning and will present one patient with complete investigation results and treatment plan.
Course Aims:
The Oral Medicine & Diagnosis is necessary for the students will be demonstrate an understanding of the etiology, epidemiology and clinical presentation of the common disorders of oral & Para-oral structures including salivary glands, TMJ and pain disorders.
Course outcomes:
After completing this course, students should be able to :
- Interview patients to gather diagnostic data and appraising them.
- Perform a systematic extra-oral and intraoral clinical examination.
- Differentiate between physiologic and pathologic oral and para-oral findings.
- Distinguish suspicious or difficult lesions to be referred for consultation.
- Assess the clinical aspects and differential diagnosis of oral lesions.
- Select appropriate investigations that aid in reaching diagnosis of oral lesions, conditions and manifestations of systemic diseases of dental relevance .
- Interpretresults of diagnostic aids to reach diagnosis of oral lesions, conditions and manifestations of systemic diseases of dental relevance.
- Diagnose common oral lesions, conditions, orofacial pain, and systemic disease relevant to dentistry formulating referral or consultation when needed.
- Apply prevention and management of common oral ulcerative, red, white, pigmented and exophytic lesions, orofacial pain, salivary gland disorders, oral complications of cancer therapy, and oral manifestations of systemic diseases relevant to dentistry.
- Write proper prescription forms, if his/her clinical case necessitate medication prescription.
