Course description:

The course covers the growth of the skull, jaws and face, from the embryo to the time when growth ceases and the development of the occlusion after birth. The course also covers diagnosis, development of abnormalities in the jaws, dental arches and teeth, prevalence, causes, preventive management and treatment. This course provides the students with a background on normal occlusion, malocclusion, growth and development of dentofacial structures, etiology and diagnosis of malocclusion.

Course Aims:

This course aims to provide the student with the essential biology and variations of craniofacial growth and occlusal development knowledge.

Course outcomes:

After completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Understand the basic concepts of facial growth and development of the dentition. 
  • Discuss the etiology of malocclusion. 
  • Differentiate between classifications of malocclusion and their treatment modalities. 
  • Discuss cephalometric radiography and its application in orthodontics.
  • Study model analysis and prediction of malocclusion.
