Endodontics III - Theoretical TDNT 4143

Course description:

This course provides information about various endodontic emergency conditions including their symptoms, signs and ways of management which can face students frequently during their dental practice. The endodontic-periodontal relationships and the resultant pathologic conditions are also covered together with their diagnosis and ways of management. In addition the course includes theoretical and clinical routes of identification, prevention and management of the main errors that may occur during endodontic treatment. Non- surgical retreatment is considered the first line of management of endodontic failure, so the various techniques, instruments and material will be detailed. Success of endodontic treatment depends largely on coronal restoration; hence the types of restorations, indications and the factors that governed the choice will be highlighted.

Course Aims:

This course helps the student to identify and handle the main problems, errors and concurrent periodontal conditions that may occur before, during or following endodontic treatment.

Course outcomes:

By completing this course, the student should be able to:
  • Diagnose and manage endodontic emergency conditions
  • Differentiate between primary endodontic, primary periodontal and combined conditions.
  • Identify how the endodontic procedural errors can occur and how to prevent and manage.
  • Understand the techniques and materials for successful non- surgical retreatment.
  • Treat emergencies such as trauma, acute inflammation and pain.
  • Learn the importance of restoring an endodontically treated tooth and grasp the guidelines for selection of suitable type of restoration.
