Course description:

This is the first course offered in Removable Prosthodontics. This course gives the basic principles of removable dental prosthetics in order to prepare the dental student for clinical work. The course in general is designed to prepare the student to understand the biological, mechanical as well as the esthetic aspect of complete denture treatment.  

Course Aims:

The primary goal of this course is to familiarize the student with the biological and technical aspects of complete dentures and their integration with the clinical procedures which will be taught in the succeeding clinical prosthodontic courses. 

Course outcomes:

The student should acquire a knowledge and understanding of:
  • The different materials, instruments and devices involved in the construction of complete dentures dentures as well as their uses.
  • Introduction in prosthodontic and anatomical land marks.
  • Impression trays and relief area.
  • Post. Palatal seal (post damping) and boxing-in the impression and making the cast.
  • Recording bases and occlusal rim.
  • Dental articulation, face bow and articulator.
  • Tooth selection.
  • Tooth arrangement.
  • Waxing up and denture processing.
  • Repair the complete denture.
  • Retention and stability.
