Course description:

This course starting with emphasizing  pulp preserving vitality as a most important rational on endodontic treatment concomitant this with the physiological and pathological  effect on pulpal aging, injury , retrogressive changes, restorative procedure and material  in dentino-pulpal complex and its defense mechanisms;  with highlighting on management taken in vital pulp followed by maintenance of pulp vitality by different therapies as direct /indirect pulp capping, partial pulpotomy (cevik) and complete pulpotomy, on the same line therapies taken in  preserving the apex and  its development such as apexogenisis and apexification. In this course also description of Pulp &peri-radicular pathosis. Demonstrating theoretically the systematical approach of diagnosis via history and examination; and the art of deferential diagnosis followed by teaching the track of the alternative treatment plan according to it. Managing the patient pain during treatment is describing in this course by going through the important clinical factors in local anesthesia and alternative techniques. Course Aims:

This course aim to provide student with knowledge of biological and pathological pulp and, also it emphasis that endodontic therapy applied in pulp preservation as well as root canal therapy.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  • Understand that contemporary endodontic therapy not restricted to pulp amputation otherwise it is more toward pulp preservation.
  • Manage and maintain vital pulp and preserve its vitality.
  • Diagnose the pulpal and peri-apical pathology base on history, clinical and radiographic examination.
  • Carry initial measurement in managing endodontic pain by anesthesia.
