Course description:

In the course, cases representative of the primary and secondary oral disease studied in the theortical  part will be evaluated and discussed with the students (differential diagnosis, working diagnosis, the need for the further diagnostic procedures, treatment, referral ...etc.) This course provides the clinical opportunity for student dentists to develop interviewing, diagnosis and basic treatment planning skills on assigned patients.

Course Aims:

The aim of this course is to enable students to acquire the clinical skills required for the diagnosis and management of primary and secondary diseases affecting the Oral and para-oral structures.

Course outcomes:

After completing this course, students should be able to apply :
  • Interviewing patients to gather diagnostic data and appraising them.
  • Performing a systematic extra-oral and intraoral clinical examination. 
  • Differentiating between physiologic and pathologic oral and para-oral findings.
  • Distinguishing suspicious or difficult lesions to be referred for consultation.
  • Assessing the clinical aspects and differential diagnosis of oral lesions. 
  • Selecting appropriate investigations that aid in reaching diagnosis of oral lesions, conditions and manifestations of systemic diseases.
  • Interpreting results of diagnostic aids to reach diagnosis of oral lesions, conditions and l manifestations of systemic diseases of dental relevance. 
  • Diagnosing common oral lesions, conditions, orofacial pain, and systemic disease relevant to dentistry formulating referral or consultation when needed.
  • Write proper prescription forms, if his/her clinical case necessitate medication prescription.
