Course description:

This course includes clinical application of the previously acquired knowledge of simple oral surgical procedures, including history gathering, detailed extra oral and oral examination, indications and contraindication of tooth extraction, principles of flap design, selection and use of the right instruments, techniques of simple tooth extraction, complications of extraction and different techniques of suturing. 

Course Aims:

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and  skills  to manage patients who are indicated for tooth extraction.

Course outcomes:

After completion this course, students should be able to:
  • Correct patient selection by identification of patients who are indicated for tooth extraction.
  • Administer local anesthesia accurately.
  • Perform simple tooth extraction according to the acquired principles and knowledge.
  • Manage preoperative and postoperative complications of tooth extraction.
  • Manage medically compromised patients by taking the proper precautions before and after the surgical procedure.
  • Select and perform the indicated suturing technique.
  • Identify and diagnose many medical conditions an Perform many medical skills (vital signs, blood sugar).
