Fixed Prosthodontics II - Preclinical PDNT 4147

Course description:

The course serves as the transitional phase the pre-clinical simulation exercises into clinical applications. The clinical phase seeks to equip the students with the fundamental skills for sound clinical fixed prosthodontic practice through the comprehensive management of a minimum number of cases. The concurrent clinical simulation session in the first course facilitates the understanding of the various clinical simulation procedures and the mutual interdependence between technical and clinical quality.

Course Aims:

The course provides the students with skills to identify and apply the preliminary steps needed to deal with dental patient clinically and preparation different design in patient mouth.

Course outcomes:

After completing the course, students should be able to:
  • Record patients, history, evaluate the chief complaints of the patient and carry through a detailed clinical examination.
  • Perform diagnosis, examination and put treatment planning for each case with course supervisior.
  • Take primary impression for patient.
  • Perform Radiographic x –ray (perapical and panoramic).
  • Prepare of (6) abutment preparation as a single crown with different design. 
  •  Perform the secondary impression. 
  • Record jaw relation.
  • Do fabrication temporary crown for each case.
  • Deliver of crown (cementation).
  • Aware of complications that can occur during the treatment as well as complications that can occur over years of function with the fixed dental prostheses and know the etiology of such complications.
