Fixed Prosthodontics I - Preclinical PDNT 3142

Course description:

This course represents the practical orientation phase to the discipline of fixed prosthodontics. It prepares the students for the practice of sound clinical fixed prosthodontics through a clinical simulation phase of mechanical and technical procedures in the laboratory.

Course Aims:

This course prepare the student for preparation different type crown and fixed bridge design  in fixed prosthodontics on artificial  teeth and extracted teeth. 

Course outcomes:

After completing the course, students should be able to:
  • Develop basic psychomotor skills for clinical dentistry.
  • Use management and clinical self-evaluation skills in delivering clinical dental care.
  • Apply basic occlusal function and stability principles to restorative procedures.
  • Apply factors of biological and mechanical design for the preparation of teeth for extracoronal cast gold, porcelain fused to metal and all ceramic restorations.
  • Apply factors of biological and mechanical design for complex foundational restorations.
  • Do clinical work with patients in the area of fixed prosthodontics and should prepare the following: 
    1. Primary impression taking.
    2. Final impression taking.
    3. Making temporary crown.
    4. Making wax pattern, spruing, investment, and casting for single crown.
