Course description:

The subjects of this course are correspondent with that of the theoretical course, with more focus on  discussions and demonstrations with the aid of plastic models , videos, Cadaveric human bones, and animations, focusing on topics that are closely related to dentistry.

Course Aims:

This course will assist students in gaining foundation practical knowledge regarding the anatomy of the head and neck region.

Course outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will be able to: 
  • Identify and describe the features of cranial and facial bones and the cervical vertebrae. 
  • Identify and describe the anatomy and functions of the temporomandibular joint. 
  • Identify the origin, insertion, and describe the actions of all muscles associated with the head and neck. 
  • Identify the location and describe the functions of the cranial nerves, including the structures they innervate. 
  • Locate the sites for local anesthetic injection and describe the anatomical structures used to identify each site. 
  • Identify the location, structure and describe the function of the salivary glands. 
  • Identify the location, structure and describe the function of the lymph nodes of the head and neck. 
  • Identify the location, structure and describe the function of the major blood vessels of the head and neck.
