Course description:

This course explain the importance of maintaining a healthy level of various vitamins and minerals and adequate hydration during training, and how to detail the positive health related outcomes of a physically active life style. This course also introduces the role of dietary supplements for human & athletes and benefits of these supplements, and wither these dietary supplements essential or not. Also focuses on dietary implications of dietary supplements, types and risks of these supplements. It is also provide students with the knowledge on energy drinks and its composition & the desired and side effects of an these drinks

Course Aims:

  • To recognize the impact of the intensity, duration and frequency of physical activity on an individual’s micronutrients requirements.  
  • To describe the main energy sources available to the contracting skeletal muscle and the mechanisms regulating the metabolic response to exercise.  
  • To consider how an optimum diet can affect exercise performance before and after training and competition. 
  • To discuss the impact of physical activity on dietary protein requirements and protein turnover.
  • To recognize the health effects of dietary supplements & energy drinks.

Course outcomes:

After completing this course, the student should be able to:
  • Recommend dietary supplements leading to better health outcomes and improved life style.
  • Develop skills in various components of course module and working with human & athletes nutrition.
