Course description:

This course focuses on the history of immunology and basic terms, development of immunology, specific and non-specific immunity, vaccination, immune system, Also focuses antigen, antigen characterization, the most important environmental antigen, human antigens, antibodies, characterization and structure, biosynthesis, classes of  antibodies. The course introduce the principles major histo-compatible system, characterization, biological functions, association with diseases and antigen processing.
 The course will provides students with sufficient knowledge and skills on assessment, diagnosis and immunological importance of lipids, proteins, vitamins, minerals and heavy metals in diet. The course also describing the mode of action of food allergy and diet.

Course Aims:

  • To develop intellectual and practical skills of the students in assessment, diagnosis &management of autoimmune diseases.   
  • To explain the term of phagocytosis and inflammation.                 
  • To recognize antigen and antibodies reaction.
  • To explain the mode of action and humoral regulation of interleukins, interferons, TNF, TGF, HSP.                                        
  • To develop intellectual and practical skills of the students on humoral regulation and mode of action.

Course outcomes:

After completing this course, the student should be able to:
  • Assess the most important environmental antigen.                        
  • Recognize the antigen and antibodies reaction.                              
  • Explain immunological importance of lipids, proteins, vitamins, minerals and heavy metals in diet.          
  • Provide treatment, follow up &management of autoimmune diseases.
