Course description:

This course introduces the dietary habits and its effects on human health. Basic regulation of eating and body weight, and what are the benefit of healthy eating and active living.
In addition, it will introduce the clinical characteristics of eating disorders, psychological and social factors, dieting, and body image. It provides information about the effects of behavior concept in the community, gender, ethnicity, and eating disorders. Also, management of patients with intractable eating disorders, and clinical assessment of patients with eating disorders.

Course Aims:

The student recognizes the:
  • Basic regulation of eating and body weight. 
  • Poor eating habits and physical inactivity contribute to many health problems.
  • To gain the ability to think critically about problems of eating disorders.
  • To differentiate between Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.
  • To differentiate between types of disorder like binge eating disorder, night eating syndrome and anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
  • Childhood-onset eating disorders.
  • Cross-cultural perspectives on eating disorders.
  • Treatment and prevention of eating disorders.
  • Clinical assessment of patients with eating disorders.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  • Understand that eating habits are part of our behavior that affects health as it originated from childhood.
  • Describe the factors that affect dietary habits. 
  • Gain the ability to evaluate the risk of fast food.
  • Understand how to differentiate between all types of eating disorder. 
  • Understand the risk factors for eating disorders.
  • Know the management of patients with intractable eating disorders.
  • Treatment and prevention of eating disorders.
