Course description:

This single module is designed to meet today's need for updated technical information on planning, installing and operating materials handling systems. It not only classifies and describes the standard types of materials handling equipment, but also analyzes the engineering specifications and compares the operating capabilities of each type.

Course Aims:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Identify and define the purchasing & warehousing roles of the business enterprise.
  • Illustrate the different types of purchasing & warehousing control systems.
  • Introduce the basics of purchasing & warehousing systems.
  • Examine the environmental factors & the organizational characteristics that impact purchasing & warehousing and develop an understanding of how these factors are incorporated into strategic decision making.
  • Understand the reasons why companies are shifting from storage warehouses to distribution centers in their plans of physical distribution.
