Course description:

This module emphasizes the important role an information system manager plays in the development of a company strategy. It will show how everyday problems need to be seen in a fresh perspective — that of balancing the competing pressures of business and technology.

Course Aims:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Understand the meaning and significance of MIS to organizational decision¬ making. 
  • Distinguish between information systems & information teaching. 
  • Know the difference between data & information. 
  • Distinguish between computer literacy and information literacy and understand the importance of both to organizations.
  • Understand systems theory and its relevance to the study of information Systems.
  • Understand why different types of information systems are necessary to facilitate organizational decision making.  

Course outcomes:

By the successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • Knowledge and understanding: Describe the nature and scope of intelligent support systems and explain how they support high-level decision making. 
  • Cognitive skills (thinking and analysis): Understand how office automation systems can enhance communications and productivity in the workplace.
