Course description:

This course examines concepts, tools and techniques used in the management and measurement of quality, productivity, and competitiveness in an international environment. It focuses on how firms add value and compete with quality. Topics include Quality Control and Management, Employee Involvement in quality, Team Building for Quality, Quality Circles, Relation between Quality, Productivity, and Competitiveness, and Statistical Process Control.

Course Aims:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Provide students with an understanding of quality concepts.
  • Develop an appreciation of the need for quality and its control.
  • Enhance students awareness of the disciplines, systems and techniques of quality management.
  • Develop an appreciation of customers, clients and markets.
  • Enable students to apply quality management methods to all activities in the business or organization.
  • Enable students to select, apply and recommend appropriate quality tools and techniques to all activities in the business or organization.

By the successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • know business excellence models and be able assess organization’s performance making reference to their criteria;
  • know the principles of total quality management and peculiarities of their implementation;
  • be able to use quality management methods analyzing and solving problems of organization;
  • Know prerequisites of evolution of total quality management and significance of quality gurus’ works to the management of modern organizations.
