Course description:

This course is to make students familiar with the basic concepts of risk management and information systems security. The course introduces the security goals, security functions, and security mechanisms .Students will explore the latest techniques for securing information and its systems, from policies and procedures to technologies and audit. Also this course provides students with different techniques for security risk management. It includes data protection and information hiding using different algorithms of cryptography and steganography. Students will be able to perform full activities for information security.

Course Aims:

This course aims to enable the students to:
  • Learn about specific algorithms for encryption and decryption.
  • Analyze internal and external threats to proactively prevent information attacks.
  • Learn how to do security risk management and design secure systems.
  • Learn how to define the security problems.
  • Study a wide spectrum of different issues where information systems could be protected.
  • Deal with tools of risk analysis and perform risk management strategies.

Course outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Understand the basic concepts of the information security and risk management.
  • Define a variety of generic security threats and vulnerabilities, identify and analyze particular security problems for a given application.
  • Use different risk management tools and methods.
  • Do a project to apply information protection techniques and algorithms.
