Advanced Surveying GISE 5301

Course description:

This course comes as an extension to the elementary surveying principles taught in the “Surveying” course.  It covers the principles of coordinate’s geometry, using Theodolite for working on problems including vertical and horizontal angles.  Different applications of Total Station are offered through this course.  Use of GIS applications for surveying will also be presented. 

Course Aims:

The aims of this course are to:
  • Introduce students to Geomatics through surveying principles.
  • Train students to work with Theodolite.
  • Present principles of coordinate geometry.
  • Explore different techniques available for solving surveying problems.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  • Perform complex surveying works. 
  • Use Theodolite and Total Station efficiently. 
  • Employ computer applications to solve, analyze and present surveying related problems.
