Medical Imaging Systems1 EQUP 4334

Course description:

The course provides a comprehensive knowledge of Medical Imaging technologies from a biomedical engineering perspective. The physics, mathematics, Instrumentation and clinical applications of all common medical imaging modalities including Ultrasound imaging, xray radiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will be discussed.

Course Aims:

  • Develop basic knowledge Of the commonly Used and emerging biomedical imaging .modalities including Ultrasound x-ray imaging ,  CT, And Magnetic resonance imaging
  • Develop an understanding of general technical issues in medical imaging that Span the common modalities.
  • Develop A competence in the fundamental analytical and computational tools used in       Medical imaging.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Recognize that there is a need for different imaging modalities
  • Understand the basic principles of each modality
  • Understand the terminology of biomedical imaging
  • Describe the key elements of the imaging systems that lead to image formation.
  • Describe the construction and operational principles of medical imaging devices
  • Explain how x-rays are works for diagnostic purpose.
