Course description:

This course introduces the students to the art of the English novel in terms of its emergence, arrangement of events, methods of narration, setting, plot, and themes. Charlotte Bronte- Jane Eyre and C.Dickens Oliver Twist are the main work studied in the course. 

Course Aims:

The course aims to:
  • Provide the students with a concise history of the English novel.
  • Discuss the various ways of arranging events and methods of narration.
  •  Analyze the setting, the plot and themes of novels tackled in the course.
  • C.Dickens Oliver Twist and Charlotte Bronte- Jane Eyre.

The students are expected to:
  • Show a deep understanding of the emergence of the novel as a specific genre.
  • Write on the structure of the novel
  • Answer questions relating to the setting, plot, characterization, and themes
  • Display a deep understanding of C.Bronte masterpiece Jane Eyre and C.Dickens  masterpiece Oliver Twist.
