Course description:

This course designed to prepare the student to work in the community settings such as primary care centers, mother & child health centers, schools and other work settings. This course provides a conceptual foundation for nursing that recognize the community as client in society. The course examines socioeconomic, environmental, epidemiological, and the impact of health beliefs and practices on health promotion and protection in communities and society. In the Palestinian community, adequate primary health care is essential to meet community health care needs such as health promotion; disease prevention, health maintenance, care of chronic diseases are immediate concerns of the Palestinian people. Other topics include reproductive health and family planning, mother and child health, communicable diseases, school health, home visits, substance abuse, care of older people and health care delivery system. 

Course Aims:

The aims of this course is to prepare the student to work in the community settings such as primary care centers, mother & child health centers, schools and other work settings. The students can practice health education and health promotion. Acquiring skills to work with chronic diseases, mother and child, giving vaccinations, sharing in school programs..etc.

Course outcomes:

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Explain the relationship between community health perception of the community and related health problems. 
  • Describe factors that influenced the growth of community health nursing. 
  • Define health care delivery system. 
  • Understand factors affecting health care delivery system. 
  • Apply the steps of nursing process in a community setting. 
  • Identify the socio-economic factors that affect the health of women and children. 
  • Outline the aim of adult reproductive health (ARH). 
  • Mention goal and objectives of SHS. 
  • List the responsibilities of community health nurse. 
  • Identify common substance of abuse and dependence.
  • Recognize the application of nursing process on promoting family health. 
  • Describe the major health problems of the older population.
  • Explain purposes of home visiting and home health service. 
  • Recognize the principles of immunization.
  • Oriented to the immunization schedule for children in Palestine.
