Course description:

This course is complementary to Medical surgical I. It provides the student with the needed skills and knowledge needed to provide adequate comprehensive nursing care of the adult patients. Students supposed to utilize the knowledge they gain and apply it to practice. This course Emphasis is placed on providing care to client with musculoskeletal disorders, urinary system diseases, renal diseases, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and common eye diseases. Also emphasizes on the various human aspects such as psychosocial, socioeconomic, physiological, and spiritual needs of the clients in their nursing care plans. Furthermore, students are required to implement and develop the skills of evaluating nursing care plans constructed for clients.

Course Aims:

This course provides opportunities to develop competencies necessary to meet the needs of individuals throughout the lifespan in a safe, legal, and ethical manner using the nursing process. Emphasis is placed on providing care to individuals with musculoskeletal, urinary system, renal diseases, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, patient with cancer, and common eye diseases.

Course outcomes:

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Identify the nursing implications of the various procedures used for musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Can differentiate between acute myocardial infarction and angina pectoris.
  • Able to deal with patient of urinary system and providing the appropriate intervention.
  • Formulate the client health actual and potential health problems.
  • Oriented to hospitalized hemodialized patients.
  • Discuss common eye disorders, diagnostic evaluation and management.
  • Manage patients with common neurological disorders.
  • Understand the nature of cancer, types, clinical manifestation, complication, methods of diagnosis and treatment modalities.
  • Diagnose client health problems and apply the nursing process as a framework for care the patient with cancer, surgery and complications.
  • Identify the nursing care used for a patient after a prostatectomy operation.
