Course description:

During this clinical practice, the students have the opportunity to apply theory to practice in caring for the mother and child. The clinical practice is geared toward family centered health care. Its concern is care of the infant, toddler, preschool and school age children as well as their families. The clinical focuses on traumatic care of children by enabling students to be efficient practitioners, health educators and promoters in the field of child health nursing in various health settings that provide services for children and families within the Palestinian Gaza community. The student will gain high quality skills needed to work efficiently in the primary health care settings. Clinical practice will take place in both primary and secondary health care settings.

Course Aims:

The aim of this course will enable student to apply a holistic approach to nursing care through primary prevention, health promotion, and health maintenance. In addition to that, the student can utilize the nursing process; to formulate comprehensive nursing diagnosis, interventions and evaluation associated with the most common pediatric health conditions. Student will practice effectively nursing procedure for children like medication different injections, nursing process and health education for families.

Course outcomes:

After the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Identify the growth and development related to age.
  • Practice measures for health preventions and health maintenance of infants and children. 
  • Deal and practice different health problems related to neonates, infants, and children at different pediatric settings. 
  • Practice the role of the child health nurse in providing care for children, and their families.
  • Meet the nutritional needs of children in various age groups in health and illness.
  • Analyze common children health problems using nursing process and preventive management as a model of care.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the different reactions of children and their families to illness and hospitalization at different stages of growth and development.
  • Meet the nutritional needs of children in various age groups in health and illness.
  • Assist in performing various pediatric technique and activities.
  • Practice recording and reporting clearly, completely, and briefly.
  • Preparing and administering medications safely.
  • Encourage parents to participate in their childcare plan.
