Course description:

Psycho-sociology for health professions course is designed to provide nursing students of main concepts of psycho-sociology that influence of social situation on human thought and action; study of how people deal with others at different social situations. In addition, developing knowledge of human behavior, different types of families, different cultures, socialization process, social deviance & social control social conflict. Also including understanding human personality, emotion, underlying mental processes. defense mechanisms, stress coping strategies and the factors that lead people to differ in the way they think and behave. 

Course Aims:

The main goal of this course is to enable the student to understand their behavior and other’s behavior, and reasons for that behavior. Also to develop insight into the nature of the psychological process and suggest how the psychological knowledge and procedures can be applied in the problem solving of personal and social problems. On their future work as dealing with different types of patients & people and understand their responses to different health problems.

Course outcomes:

At the completion of this course, the students will be able to:
  • Understand the meaning of sociology and psychology.
  • State the goals of scientific psychology.
  • Identify the common classical schools of psychology and their founding personalities.
  • Name and describe the six principal viewpoints used to explain behavior.
  • Name and describe seven important fields of psychology.
  • Able to deal with different personality with different cultures, believes and values.
