Course description:

This course is designed to allow students to deal with common psychiatric and mental health disorders upon which to build the student's ability to be aware, deal with, and provide nursing care for different cases with mental health disorders at different health care settings, the student able to do health assessment, identify nursing diagnosis, formulate planning, implementation and evaluating process of neurosis and psychosis clients, to influence the quality of psychiatric and mental  health nursing care.in addition experiences at psychiatric medical facilities, acute care settings, long term care facilities, at the community.


Course Aims:

This course aims is to enable the students to apply and practice knowledge and information about some of the psychiatric and mental health-nursing principals and concepts, able to work with patient with psychiatric disorders, construct a trust therapeutic relationship with clients, implement mental state assessment and examination correctly.

Course outcomes:

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of mentally ill patients.
  • Participate in the management of mentally ill clients as member of the team. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with health team members, clients, and their families effectively.
  • Participate in supporting families to care for a mentally ill, accept, and appreciate his/her needs.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the nature and effect of behavioral therapy, group psychotherapy, psychotherapeutic drug therapy, and electroconvulsive therapy.
  • Utilize the nursing process in caring for patients with mental disorders.
  • To differentiate between normal and abnormal behavior.
  • Able to deal with mental diseases patient safely.
  • Apply the theoretical knowledge in real clinical field.
