Course description:

This course provides opportunities for students to develop competencies necessary to meet the needs of individuals throughout the lifespan in a safe, legal, and ethical manner using the nursing process. Emphasis is placed on providing care to individuals undergoing surgery, pre and postoperative care, common alterations in respiratory, diseases of gastro-intestinal, biliary system, hepatic disorder and endocrine systems. In addition to nursing intervention for all diseased conditions related to nursing management, nutrition, medications, health education, communication, and community concepts are integrated.

Course Aims:

The goal of this course allow the student to apply safe, cost effective, legal, and ethical management strategies to the care of clients with selected diseases, different health disorders and problems of different body systems .

Course outcomes:

After the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Acquire integrated/applied knowledge, skills and attitude in giving nursing care.
  • Utilize the nursing process in giving the holistic nursing care.
  • Describe preoperative nursing measures that decrease the risk for infection & other  postoperative complications.
  • Able to provide post-operative care efficiently. 
  • Can identify potential and actual post-operative  complications. 
  • Describe the patient preparation, teaching and follow up care appropriate for patients. 
  • Understanding the different diagnostic testing of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Use the nursing process for care of patients with endocrine disorders. 
  • Describe the functions of hormones secreted by each of the endocrine glands.
  • Identify the nursing implications of the various procedures used for diagnostic assessment of respiratory function.
  • Develop plan of care for the patient receiving blood or blood component therapy.
  • Describe the patient education and home consideration for patients who have had.
