Course description:

This course designed to acquire students of the basic knowledge of general chemistry study which include the basic topics of types of chemistry needed to help students to deal which problems of chemistry and have different general chemistry skills such as measurement and matter Atomic structure and periodic table, Stiochemistry, concentration and solutions, Types chemical reactions and Bonding general concepts.

Course Aims:

The overall goal of this chemistry course is to gives the nursing students an introduction to general chemistry emphasizing the concepts that will be important for and provide the basis for the subjects the student will encounter in their future studies.

Course outcomes:

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Describe and use the scientific method, Use the periodic table. 
  • Give the electronic configurations of elements.
  • Use formulas and nomenclature.
  • Know 3 basic types of chemical reactions (Acid-base, precipitation, redox).
  • Work with enthalpy changes in reaction.
  • Use moles and morality. 
  • Understand the 3 states of matter.
  • Work with the ideal gas law. 
  • Draw Lewis structures, describe molecular shapes.
