Course description:

This course is designed to provide students with the concepts and the basic principles of psychiatric and mental health nursing upon which to build the student's ability to be aware, deal with, and manage the cases in mental health nursing care, and help to develop the capacity of the student assessment,diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluating process neurosis and psychosis clients, to influence the quality of psychiatric and mental  health nursing care..
This course designed to explore and focus on theoretical concepts and principles of psychiatric and mental health nursing in a variety of contexts and situations (hospitalized patient –community mental health centers). In addition, enable the student to deal with clients based on bio-psychosocial and spiritual dimensions.

Course Aims:

The course aims to:
  • Enable the student to identify some of the psychiatric and mental health-nursing principals and concepts.
  • To Understand and well aware about psychiatric disorders.
  • Construct trust therapeutic relationship with clients.  
  • Able to implement mental state examination.
  • Numerate the roles of the mental health nurse.
  • Identify early warning and relapse signs of each disorder.
  • Able to Construct and implement mental health nursing care plane.
  • The student will work effectively with multidisciplinary team in mental health field.

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, student will be able to:
  • To express knowledge and concepts about psychiatric and mental health
  • Make effective assessment for mental and psychiatric patients
  • Understand the different types of mental diseases and how he can deal with different situations
  • Can differentiate between normal and abnormal behavior 
  •  To deal with patient having  different mental disorders
