Course description:

This course designed to prepare the student to work in the community settings such as primary care centers, Mother Child Health centers, schools and work settings. In the Palestinian community, adequate primary health care is essential to meet its health care needs.  Health promotion, disease prevention and health maintenance are immediate concerns of the Palestinian people. The course will provide the students how to deal with different chronic diseases, oriented about vaccination program, level of health care delivery and common community health problems, in addition to practice health education and health promotions    

Course Aims:

The course aims to:
  • To givestudents the opportunityto actively function as nurses in the community-based settings learning to manage, educate and coordinate continuity of care within the community. 
  • Allow the student to participate actively in providing primary health regarding health education health promotions, screening as well as participating in governmental and non-governmental immunization programs contributing to improving the health of the community.
  • Able to deal with chronically ill patients, mother care and child

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, student will be able to:
  • Use the community nursing process in the community.
  • Develop teaching plans appropriate to the health needs of individuals, families, groups and population.
  • Collaborate with members of health team in performing screening programs for children, families and communities.
  • Administer various types of available vaccines appropriately according to the vaccination schedule in Gaza.
  • Follow up the growth and development pattern of a baby during a routine visit to the maternal child health clinic.
  • Carry out a home visit whenever indicated considering the preparation phase of the visit.
  • Use therapeutic, communication techniques with clients, families, and groups of varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Document nursing interventions with accuracy and confidentiality.
