Course description:
Design of shear wall to resist various loads including lateral force, seismic and wind load. It also covers the design of raft foundations, joints and retaining walls (cantilever and counter fort). Students will be experiencing the applications of all these topics by means of course projects.
Course Aims:
The aim of this course is to bring the knowledge of the student to an advanced level in design of structural systems in which they can conceptualize the behavior of the components under various load effects and design the structural systems accordingly. This knowledge is practiced during the course on analysis wind load and seismic load using UBC and IBC, and design of new structural members such as mat foundation, retaining walls and shear walls.
Course outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Use advanced methods of analysis and design special types of reinforced concrete mat foundation and retaining walls.
- Use UBC and IBC code to analysis wind Load
- Use UBC and IBC code to analysis Seismic load
- Design ordinary and special types of reinforced concrete shear walls.
