Course description:

Is a subject of growing importance for pharmacists in all areas of practice? Although originally more closely associated with hospital and pharmacy care work.
Is emphasizes the role of pharmacist as part of a multidisciplinary team made up of clinicians, the pharmacist acts as adviser to all members of the health care team and most importantly to patients themselves. The student will study the following subjects: life stages disorders of the different physiological systems (Gastro intestinal, Nervous, Cardiovascular, Hepatic, Renal, Respiratory, Infections, Endocrine, Obstetric and Gynecological, Urological, Eye, Rheumatic, and Skin) and Malignant disorders.

Course Aims:

The Pharmacist Should be more integral part of the primary care team and become fully utilized as a source of advice to all members of the health care team and patients, Gives the required information to the student about therapeutics and the rational use of medicines and cases study.

Course outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:  
  • Life stages: Neonates, Pediatrics, Geriatrics.
  • Neurological and psychological disorders: Insomnia and anxiety, Affective disorders, schizophrenia, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Pain, Nausea and Vomiting.
  • Cardiovascular disorders: Hypertension, Ischemic heart disease, Congestive cardiac failure, Cardiac arrhythmias, Thrombosis, Hyperlipidemia, Anemia, Drug- Induced blood disorders.
  • Gastro intestinal disorders: Peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel, Constipation and diarrhea.
  • Hepatic disorders: Adverse effects of drugs on the liver, hepatic disease.
  • Renal disorders: Acute renal failure, chronic renal failure.
  • Respiratory disorders: Asthma, Chronic obstructive airways: drug- induced lung disease.
  • Urological disorders: Benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  • Infectious disorders: Respiratory Infections, UTI, G.I.I Infective meningitis, surgical antibiotic prophylaxis, Endocarditic, Tuberculosis, HIV infection, Fungal infections.
  • Endocrine disorders: Thyroid and parathyroid, Diabetes.
  • Obstetric and Gynecological disorders: Menstrual cycle, Menopause and hormone replacement therapy, Drugs in pregnancy and lactation.
  • Rheumatic disorders: Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis, gout and hyperuricaemia.
  • Malignant disorders: Leukemia, Lymphomas, Solid tumors.
  • Eye disorders: Glaucoma.
  • Skin disorders: Eczema and psoriasis, Drug – induced skin disorders, Pressure sores and leg ulcers.
