Course description:

This theoretical part of the course provide the student with the required knowledge related to dental implantology  that should cover the following topics:
Peri-implantation biologic and functional considerations, Implant components,
Preoperative assessment and treatment planning (Medical history, medical risk assessment, dental history, diagnostic models, diagnostic imaging, intraoral examination), Prosthetic considerations in implant treatment planning, Surgical techniques (implant site exposure, implant placement), Post-operative management, Soft and hard tissue management and grafting and Implant prosthetic options.
The practical part of the course includes clinical application of principles acquired during the theoretical part, including proper patient selection, and detailed preoperative assessment. (Clinical, radiographic, study models), it also includes performance of the surgical steps of delayed/ late impalntology (2- Stage technique) starting from surgical incisions, raising full thickness flap, osteotomy preparation, fixture insertion and closure.

Course Aims:

The course aims to provide the student with the basic principles knowledge and clinical practice of dental implant therapy.

Course outcomes:

After completing this course, students should have the basic knowledge  of the following subjects :

  • Preoperative assessment and precise patient selection.
  • Different types and parts of a dental implant.
  • Techniques and timing of implant placement.
  • Identification and management of the complications that may occur during or after implant treatment.
  • Prosthodontic and Periodontics considerations of implant therapy.
  • Success criteria of dental implants.
  • Advanced concepts of dental implantology (Zygomatic implants, bone grafting,).
  • Select the case that is indicated for dental implant.
  • Perform proper preoperative assessment (medical history, physical examination,  study models) 
  • Perform radiographic assessment with the ability to interpret different radiographic findings.
  • Observe all the clinical steps involved in implant dentistry including:
    • Properly designed incision.
    • Elevation of full thickness flap.
    • Osteotomy preparation. 
    • Insertion of the fixture.
    • Follow up the patient postoperatively, clinically and radiographically.
