Forensic Dentistry BDNT 5177

Course description:

The will provide theoretical and practical knowledge of the forensic medical sciences, and will train students to be able to critically evaluate and interpret forensic medical and scientific evidence. The course is implemented practically to reveal legitimate and lawful facts by using evidence. Student is expected to gain skills like writing detailed medical judicial reports, dealing with criminal acts and cases, setting priorities between medical duty and lawful duty as well as gaining knowledge about bite-mark identification, analysis and comparison, the identification of the living or deceased, and patterned injury identification.

Course Aims:

The course aims to deliver core knowledge in the dental forensic medicine so the students will have a better understanding of the principles that involved in the various specialist areas as well as an awareness of the broad scope of the field. 

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to: 
  • an understanding of the role of forensic dentistry medicine.
  • experience in medico-legal reporting and presenting of evidence in a court.
  • Identify the skills and techniques used by modern forensic scientists.
  • Assess the role played by forensics in solving landmark crimes.
  • Perform routine forensic procedures in a laboratory environment.
