Course description:
This is the last clinical course in periodontology. All practical topics learned in previous courses should be practiced in comprehensive manner.
Course Aims:
This course aims to enable the students to treat any periodontal patient with all possibilities learned previously.
Course outcomes:
At the end of this course, the students should:
- Be able to describe the development and the clinical, histological and radiographic features of the periodontium.
- Be able to describe the microscopic and clinical features of periodontal and periimplantpathosis.
- Understand the role of oral microbes in the etiology of periodontitis and periimplant inflammation.
- Understand the role of host factors in the progression of periodontal diseases and periimplant inflammation.
- Understand the connection between periodontal diseases and systemic health.
- Understand the epidemiology and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases.
- Be able to obtain the patients history of periodontal disease, examine him, arrive at a diagnosis, develop a sequenced treatment plan and present it to the patient in an orderly manner.
- Be able to integrate periodontal treatment with the overall treatment needs of the patient.
- Become proficient in the non-surgical treatment of periodontitis.
- Be familiar with and understand the principles of current surgical techniques for periodontitis.
- Gain some experience in the surgical management of periodontitis.
- Understand the indications and contraindications of dental implant therapy.
- Be able to describe the mechanism of osseointegration and soft tissue attachment to implants.
