Oral Histology, Physiology and Embryology I BDNT 2221

Course description:

This course establishes the foundation of normal oral histology, physiology and embryology and the surrounding extra oral and intraoral structures to include the embryologic development and related histology of the orofacial structures.  It is a fundamental element in teaching in many clinical subjects and it provides students with the background required to Oral Pathology, Operative Dentistry, Endodontics and Periodontics.

Course Aims:

The course aims to equip students with knowledge necessary for use in assessing oral health and disease, determining appropriate dental treatment plans, and applying these findings to treatment principles.

Course outcomes:

After completion of this course students should be able to:
  • Have knowledge of various dental histological structure and nomenclature.
  • Give a detailed Information about the histology of normal tooth hard tissues and the embryology of them. 
  • Identify healthy tooth hard structure and histological findings. 
  • Make use of acquired knowledge and skills in later preclinical and clinical courses. 
  • Discuss/communicate with patients and colleagues and teachers using professional terminology.
