Course description:

The course focuses on financial accounting in Corporations. It provides knowledge in the following topics: Corporation formulation, issuing Shares, shares types, Dilutive securities and Earnings per share, Dividends policy and treatment, issuing bonds, bonds types, accounting on investment, revenue recognition, preparing comprehensive financial statements for Corporation, Corporation liquidation, accounting for Pension Funds, Accounting for Lease, accounting changes and errors analysis and presentation and disclosure in financial reporting. The course is IFRS based. Also it includes practical applications

Course Aims:

  • To know the concept, characteristics, advantages and limits of Corporation and to identify the key components of stockholders’ equity, net income per share and dividends.
  • To apply all accounting principles and treatments of corporation transactions including the preparation of comprehensive financial statements for corporations.
  • To know the bonds types and to deal with accounting issues related to bonds issuance, amortization, redemption and bonds interest
  • Apply the revenue recognition principles.
  • Understand the accounting for debt investments 
  • Explain the nature, economics substance, and advantages of lease transactions, and it’s accounting treatments.
  • Identify the types of accounting changes and errors and how to deal with them.
  • To apply practical cases 

Course outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  • Identify the concept, characteristics, advantages and limits of Corporation and key components of stockholders’ equity, net income per share and dividends.
  • Apply all accounting principles and treatments of corporation transactions including the preparation of comprehensive financial statements for corporations.
  • Identify the bonds types and to deal with accounting issues related to bonds issuance, amortization, redemption and bonds interest
  • Applying the revenue recognition principles.
  • Understanding of  the accounting for debt investments 
  • Familiar with lease transactions accounting for both the lessor and the lessee  
  • Deal with the accounting changes and errors 
  • Make practice of some practical applications and case studies
